I have wanted to go to Chick’n’Sours for a long time, probably since I first saw a picture of their enormous fried chicken on a bun or to be precise Korean fried thigh, gochujang mayo, chilli vinegar and crunchy ‘slaw in a bun.Don, Don was already there when I arrived and had ordered a portion each of the sticky and hot wings to get us started.
The chicken was tender and tasty, it’s all free range and herb fed from Yorkshire. The sticky was a bit on the sweet, nondescript side for me but the spicy had a great level of heat and flavour.
We both had the fried thigh on a bun, along with a portion of beef dripping fries and pickled watermelon, peanuts and coriander.
They are staggeringly big. I’m not sure it would be possible to pick it up and bite into it. I managed to eat half of mine which is good because, funnily enoughp,it’s not on the Body Coach plan, but I am :(.
It’s delicious; it’s a big delicious messy stack of tastiness. Yes, I liked it. The dripping fries are bloody sensational, you can actually taste the beef. The watermelon is dressed in fish sauce, vinegar, lemon and mint, it cuts through the big fat flavours of the chicken beautifully.
I was surprised how quiet it was on a Saturday lunch time but it is a bit of a schlep to get there, and yes, I walked there and back to make up for going ‘off plan’! They’ve just opened in Seven Dials, so if you fancy trying it and you’re not out east that might be easier.
And for the record it was totally worth going ‘off plan’ for it!
